Its spring and it is time to fertilize. Time to order pallets of fifty pound bags of fertilizer, if you’re a commercial landscaper or head to your local home and garden store, if you’re a DIY homeowner. Then you’ll need to break out the spreaders, garden hoses and backpack blowers.
If there were only a more cost effective and efficient way to fertilize.
No more lugging around dirty, heavy bags of fertilizer. No more excess watering. No more clean up.
What you could do is use your existing irrigation system to fertilize your planters and turf.
It’s called Fertigation.
Fertilize through your existing irrigation by installing an underground fertigation tank, which you can refill with liquid fertilizer as needed.
The system feeds the fertilizer directly into the irrigation system, regardless the type: drip, spray heads, even rotor heads – used for sports fields and golf courses.
Fertigation saves time because all that’s required is adding fertilizer to the fertigation tank. Then let your irrigation run at regular scheduled intervals. Less fertilizer is required, so fertigation also saves you money.
Another great use for a fertigation system is to apply pesticides and growth regulators. This process is referred to as chemigation.
The size of your property and area requiring nutrients determines the size of the underground tank needed.
To put it in perspective, Heaviland Landscape Management utilizes a two gallon tank for the quarter of an acre landscape at our headquarters. We’ve installed twelve gallon tanks at larger HOA’s and a sixty gallon tank at a golf course.
If the landscape area is large, a pump is required, to inject the fertilizer into the mainline.
The cost of commercial landscape maintenance is determined by the number of man hours required to maintain a property. Fertigation eliminates most of the time required for fertilizer application and clean up. Fertigation is more cost effective than traditional fertilization, a time saver, reduces waste and is better for the environment.
