In 2015 Covey Commercial and Rexford Industrial began collaborating with Heaviland Landscape Management to perform a design/build renovation. Heaviland began the collaborative design process by conceptual renderings and a drought tolerant plant list. Heaviland secured $66,880 in turf removal rebate reservations with SoCal Water Smart which allowed ownership to greatly increase the scope of work.
Heaviland developed a multi-phase approach to the renovation to help meet budgetary concerns while complying with rebate requirements. Once the design and budget were approved, Heaviland worked diligently to complete the project within the 60-day window required by the rebate agency. During the renovation Heaviland also retrofitted the site to be Recycled Water Compliant. The project was completed on-time and on-budget. Shortly after the turf removal project was completed, the entire landscape was converted to recycled water.
The water smart landscape renovation was a remarkable design/build collaboration success. The project saves approximately 2.3 million gallons of potable water annually while helping the client to reduce maintenance costs and enhance aesthetics.
- Turf removal – 1,025,500 gallons saved annually
- Recycled water retrofit – 1,263,000 gallons saved annually
